Recovering

About a week ago I had my tonsils removed.  They said it would be about 2 full weeks before I recovered (and absolutely no strenuous activity for those two weeks).  I thought they were exaggerating, turns out they weren't.  I still cannot talk, I'm just now starting to eat very small amounts of solid foods like mac and cheez and mashed tatoes.  I'm so hungry but it hurts so bad to swallow anything, I am taking pain meds that help somewhat but they make me dizzy and very sleepy, so I find myself sleeping most of the day and the rest of the day i sit on the couch unable to do anything around the house.  Thankfully I have my wonderful hubby to help with the house work (one of is most hated things) and the kids.  They just had their last day of school yesterday so that's one less thing he has to deal with while I'm stuck at home for another week.  I am planning a trip to WV on the first of June but if I'm not completely better by then I will have to wait a little longer before I can leave.  While the kids will be visiting family in WV for a few weeks I will try to post my first tutorial!  I will be sharing with you how to make a sock doll like they did in pioneer times.  I will share with you how to dye a tube sock with tea bags to get that "skin" color, I will not have any pics of this process though because I've already dyed all the socks I had for my sock dolls. Here are a couple of finished dolls without the bonnet.

I hope you will join me.  Until next time!

Top is done!

Good morning!  The weekend is coming up fast, and with the hubby being off for the next week I may not be doing much quilting :(  I am making wonderful progress on my sister's quilt, the top is finished!  I added the last set of borders this morning.  I am very pleased with how it turned out.  It will take a while to quilt it all, but she will be so happy when she gets it.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Future Plans

Hello again!  Well, there will be a Collector's Carnival this August in Evansville.  There will be close to 200 vendors selling there wares, and I am hoping to be able to join them.  I have a bad habit of giving away the things I make to friends and family, and I thought I would try to start making some quilts and things to sell at this rendevous.  Unfortunately I don't think I will be ready in time, I may have to continue quilting and wait until next year.  School will be out in 15 days, May 25th is the last day.  I am scheduled to have my tonsils removed on the 18th this month and i can't do anything for two weeks while i heal, don't think it'll take that long though, so, on june 1st I am taking the kids to WV for a week to visit family, and to leave them there for the rest of the month.  The hubby and i will be able to have some well deserved time together!  The kids are so excited!  It's an eight hour trip, but it'll so be worth it.  In future posts I will have more pics, in fact if i can find my camera i'll show you some of the things I'm working on.  And i will be posting a list of quilts and other items i plan on making, so stay tuned! more to come!

Happy Mother's Day

Good morning!  Hope all you moms out there had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday, I know I did!  My girls wrote me peoms on fabric so i could make tiny wall hangings out of them and my son (he's 6) drew me a lovely picture of a house with a garden of beautiful flowers on fabric as well, so i have three little wall hangings! I love them all!  I find it so much better to have the kids make something for a gift than buy something from the store.
Until next time!

The quilting journey begins

Now that you've survived the crash course of my life I thought we'd get to the good stuff.  QUILTS!  Oh, I love quilts!  I love the fabric and the stitched designs!  the fact that they've been around for thousands of years!  My grandmother taught me the joy of sewing when i was 8 years old.  It wasn't until i was 18 that i made my first quilt, and it was made only with the knowledge i had from my grandmother, it wasn't much to look at and when i look at it now it looks horrible!  The first pieced quilt i made was almost as bad, then i found a book that was VERY basic and i learned how to make a crib size patchwork quilt consisting of 5" squares.  After that I gained more experience and the few quilts i have made are looking so much better than the first ones!  My best work had to be the quilt I made for my mother.

It's definately the biggest quilt I have ever made!  So far anyway.  I have several quilts lining up to be made.  I'm not very "blog friendly" so once i figure out how to work this thing my blog will be better organized!
Until next time!

Origins

Good morning!  I thought i would begin by telling you all about me and my family and where we come from.
I came from a small town, Sophia, West Virginia, graduated from Independence High School class of '99.  I moved to North Carolina for a while, then ended up in Suffolk, Virginia where i met my husband.  Once he got out of the Navy he found a job here in Newburgh at Alcoa Aluminum Plant.  We love it here in our lovely house with our three kids!  Last year we suffered a terrible loss, my mother died from cancer.  She was diagnosed in Dec 2008, and 3 months before her 50th birthday, on August 14, 2009 she died.  My sister, brother, grandmother, and my stepfather were there, I wasn't.  My 28th birthday was 7 days after she passed.  It has been almost a year and we are still breathing, the sun still comes up every morning, and life goes on, I really didn't think it would for a while.  It doesn't hurt so bad now when I think of her.
As I said I have three kids, my son is 6, and my girls will be 11 and 12 this summer.  We've lived here for about a year and a half, and they are enjoying school.  I have an area in my home that is just for me, it is closed off to all the pets (9 total- 6 cats, 2 ferrets, and 1 dog), it is my craft room.  I love to be in there, to make, to create.  I do a little bit of almost everything, quilt, sew, crochet, to name a few.  I am on facebook and flickr, i have two favorite blogs that i follow, quiltville and crazy mom quilts, I've learned so much from them.  And that's me, that was like ripping a bandaid off.  I hope to make new friends in the quilting world, maybe that's you!  Stay tuned, more to come!!

Round Two

My first attempt at blogging didn't work out so well, so now i'm back for more. This blog will mostly be about my passion for quilts (and fabric), my daily life (the good, the bad, and the ugly truth), and sometimes useless rantings. BTW my name is Felicia, and I can't wait to get to know you all! Enjoy your day!
